US Ambassador to China Gary Locke and Mona Locke encourage American students to consider studying abroad in China. As a son and grandson of Chinese immigrants, Ambassador Locke knows firsthand the importance of the 100,000 Strong Initiative, which seeks to dramatically increase the number of US students studying abroad in China.

First Lady Michelle Obama addressed a packed auditorium at Howard University on January 19th 2011. She encouraged students to study abroad in China, as part of the 100,000 Strong Initiative launched by the Obama Administration which aims to increase the number and diversity of students studying abroad in China.
